Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
Tree removal
I live in Brooklyn, NY and there is a tree in front of my house that I though was dying. According to the city, the roots were being choked by the cement and they told me I had to break the cement at my own expense. This cost me $600 for new cement work and they insisted that I do that in order to make the tree live. Why couldn't I just remove this tree since according to them, the sidewalk is my property or does that only apply when there is expensive cement work to be done.

Re: Tree removal
You should have demanded the tree be removed by the City before you fixed the sidewalk. If you think the root will once again destroy the cement you should notify the City, certified mail, to remove the tree.
