Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Asylum and Statelessness

In the context of asylum or withholding of deportation petitions: (1) What does it mean for someone to be ''stateless,'' what is the official definition? (2) Is there a test for proving stateless in court? (3) What do courts look at whenthey are deciding whether or not a refugee is stateless? (4) What is the result and/or consequence of winning a ruling that a person is, in fact, stateless? Thank you very much.
