changing from j1 to f1
i am on a j1 visa in usa, my visa expires in september 2009. i would like to starting schooling in USA next year. i want to know whether it will be possible for me to change my visa status to f1 after gaining admission to a school?

I would need more information regarding your particular case before I can comment on it properly.
However, since you are an exchange visitor, you will need to file for the F1 visa before the expiration of your J1 visa.
Bear in mind that the immigration service will expect you to show them that you already have the money to pay for your college education while you are in the US, and that you have a home abroad to return to once your have graduated from college.
