Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
I was charged with petit larceny in January 2009 in New York. After several court appearances it got reduced to disorderly conduct which was immediately sealed. I have a green card and would like to apply for citizenship. My question is can I be denied because of the charge? Can I do anything to avoid being denied? Thank You

THE ANSWER IS YES, without a lawyer, you absolutely can be denied as clients have shown me who represented themselves before they came to me in this type of situation. First, the Officer has the discretion to consider the mere arrest in the last five years before citizenship as impacting negatively on your moral character. We have handled many cases such as yours successfully and received citizenship for our clients in similar cases. Call my office at 718-803-1000 to a consultation.
