Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
Am I a citizen or not???
I was adopted by my aunt in 1987. She was a citizen since 1974. Upon adoption the Surrogate Court took my greencard and issued me a birth certificate, and a social security card. My aunt was told that since I was so young I would not have to swear in as a citizen and that I was a citizen. I have served in the USMC and am currently in the NYARNG. I need citizenship to reenlist, and to join the NYPD. After applying for a passport I was told that I was not a citizen. How can this be???? Please help.
