Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

US citizenship

I am a Us Resident that came into the US on August 16th, 2006, I was born in 1987 and was over 18 when I first came in, but my father was a US Citizen by April 19th of 2002, I was wondering if it's possible that I can become a US Citizen due to that and not wait for the 5 years, is there a form I can use or a lawyer that can help me with that??

Re: US citizenship

When you became a US Resident in 2006 did you get a temporary green card for 2 years?

Have you now received the permanent green card?

Re: US citizenship

If you were over 18 when you entered the US as a permanent resident, then you will have to wait 5 years before your will be eligible to become a US citizen. You will have to be sure to maintain your residency in the US (i.e. reside in the US).

If you have questions about maintaining residency and the eligiblity requirements for citizenship, you should contact an immigration attorney.
