You need to show that the marriage is legal, that the petitioner is a U.S. citizen and capable of supporting the immigrant spouse, the circumstances of entry to the U.S. (if the marriage is taking place in the U.S.) etc. Every case is different and different documents are involved.

To get married you just need valid ID's. However, applying for green card based on marriage, will require preparing documents showing that the marriage is legal, legitimate, etc.
You can contact our firm if you need further assistance.
