Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
f1 status and trip to peru
i entered a country 5 years ago on j1 viza. i changed my status to h2b, and then to f1. so i have f1 now, but it is not in my passport. i want to go on vacation to peru this winter, and wonder if there is any paperwork i could file in order to come back to the usa and complete my studies. i will be graduating this spring. i heard that the customs officer might not let me in, if i do not have f1 in the passport. thank you

Re: f1 status and trip to peru
Dear Sir,
While you have a valid F-1 status, in order to enter the United States once you depart it will be necessary for you to obtain an F-1 visa in your passport to present at the Point of Entry.
It is necessary for you to prepare to obtain the visa at the Consulate abroad. It may be possible for you to obtain a visa in Canada or Mexico before your visit to Peru.
You should consult with an immigration lawyer before doing so.
