Dear Inquirer:

There is no per se bar to immigrating family members due to a bankruptcy, however, you should be aware that eventually you will be required to execute an Affidavit of Support to prove that you have adequate resources to prevent your family from becoming a public burden.

I would need more information regarding your particular case before I can comment on it properly.

However, filing for bankruptcy would indicate that you are in financial trouble and they will be wondering how you are going to support your family (wife and son) while you are paying off your debt.

Remember too that in filing for bankruptcy it will be appear on your credit report.
