Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

greencard

hi! i am the us now and expecting for

my work permit in a month or two and

my green card may be in a few month, i

got a social security number in 1990 or

so which i paid tax from 1998-2002.

i was a student with F1 visa.i didn't have

working permit . but i still got a reguler

social security number. my question is ,

is it going to be any probrem if i work

now paid tax or i did paid tax before

without work permit to get a greencard

? thanks.

There are several questions here. Are you getting your green card as an immediate relative of an American Citizen? If yes, your unauthorized employment will be forgiven as an exception. If not, then there is a question whether your previous employment was authorized or not. Students on F1 are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week on campus or, with a special permission, of campus. If this is how your worked, you are fine. If you took unauthorized employment, you need to consult an immigration attorney immediately. You may have serious problems obtaining a green card.
