Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
My husband petitioned for me to become a U.S resident, he is a United States citizen. Currently he owes outstanding payments in child support to his ex wife. Will this affect my status to become a permanent resident? Thank you.

As long as he is earning enough money to file an affidavit of support, USCIS, should have no record of his outstanding child support issues, unless his case has been sent to criminal court. Generally, USCIS looks at criminal records and not what is happening in probate and family court.
