Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
immigration problem
Hi lawyers, my question is: my best friend came to this country three years ago illegally. She married in my country and she was pregnant when she came to USA. Actually after having her first baby, her husband starting abusing her physically and verbally leaving her pregnant again. She cannot work anymore because her pregnancy and he doesn't support her at all. She will be glad to know what she can do to get a US residence alien eventhough her husband is divorcing her. She also wanna know if she can claim any public assistance because she cannot pay rent or buy food for her and her daughter. She will appreciate your oppinion. Thank you for your time and consideration.
sincerely,

Re: immigration problem
When you say that your friend "married in my country," you fail to say if she married a U.S. citizen or not. If she married a U.S. citizen, then she might be eligible for relief under U.S. immigration law. If her husband is not a U.S. national, then I do not think that there is much an immigration lawyer can do to help her.
