Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
International Marriage
Hello,
I am a US Resident, I would like to get married and my girl friend has a Indian Passport, what would it take for her to come to the US Legally, and how long would this take? She has a tourist visa for the US.
Thanks,
Manil

Re: International Marriage
Unfortunately, you can't marry your girlfriend and take her to the US. The quota backlog for a spouse of a lawful permanent resident is more than 5 years after you file the I-130 relative petition. If you are eligible for citizenship, I suggest you file for citizenship. Then you can sponsor her as a fiance of a US citizen.
Otherwise, I suggest you consult with an immigration lawyer to see if your fiance qualifies for a work visa like an H-1B.
That is the only forseeable way for you to marry & live together in the US any time soon.
