Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Jury Duty

My mother is an illegal allien in this country. Somehow she received jury duty notice and never complied with it. She ignored it. It is her third letter now and since she never complied with the request, the letter states that if she doesn't appear in The Supreme Court Building to verify herself, she could be fined or imprisoned. Could any legal actions could be taken against her since she's illegal here and didn't comply with the request to appear in court for jury duty. After all, she wouldn't be able to serve on jury duty, since it's only for US citizens. Can she write a letter to Supreme Court explaining her situation or should she just ignore it without taking any action?

Re: Jury Duty

It seems like your mother would be at risk both if she appears before the court for jury duty and if she doesn't. Either action can result in her being reported to the immigration authorities who may commence removal proceedings.

I would need to speak with you further to ascertain what may be the best recourse for your mother. Feel free to contact me at your convenience if you wish to do so.

Kind regards,
