Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
L1A Visa other income
I have an L1A Visa. Im planning to publish a book and receive some income and pay the correspondent taxes, this income will be additional to the one from my employer. Is it legal to receive this additional income? Is it legal if I create a website and sell my book there?
Thanks!

Re: L1A Visa other income
Your employment in the U.S. under your L1 visa is strictly limited to that with your L1 employer. However, this does not mean that you may not derive non-employment income from such activities as writing or similar pursuits which can be described as academic, private or incidental to employment with your employer. Creating a website and engaging in commercial activity probably oversteps the boundary of what is permissible in your L1 status but even that may be properly structured if you are not managing the website yourself and have others running it, for example, as passive investment of capital and other assets (such as IP rights) is generally allowed. Consult a business immigration attorney with your specific facts and circumstances.
The above reply is in the nature of general information, is not legal advice and does not form an attorney-client relationship.
Re: L1A Visa other income
I would need more information regarding your particular case before I can comment on it properly.
However, in order to do business in the US, you must set up your business legally and pay all the necessary taxes to the Federal Government,NY City and State. In order for all that to happen you will need a Tax ID number to register your company.
After all of this is completed, it would be legal for you to receive the additional income.
If the website is part of your business, yes it's legal as long as you are doing it within the legal guidelines under the entity you created.
