You may want to file for a re-entry permit (Form I-131) or you may be eligible for citizenship depending on how you obtained your permanent resident status. Before completing Form I-131 for a re-entry permit, you should speak with an attorney so that you understand the requirements for maintaining permanent residency so that you will be able to return to the US.

I would need more information regarding your particular case before I could comment on it properly.

However, what I can say is that when you got your green card was'nt it made clear to you that you were not permitted to stay out of the US for more than six months each year.

Accordingly, for you to now want to spend a whole year in your home country would be an issue.

You need to contact USCIS and see if they will grant you permission to go back to your home country.

What they will ask you, of course, is why you cannot do the course here in the US?
