Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
n-400 naturalization process
hello. i have applied for a naturalization process on sep 11, 2006. on sep 28 i went for my fingerprinting. According ins website they are now processing applications with receipt dates as of january 12, 2007. Obviously, my application is overdue now. I called, wrote and tried by other means to find about my unexpected delay. all of my friends by now are citizens, even my brother- who applied at the saME TIME. I was told that FBI is conduction a bacground check and that INS is not allowed to rush them... How long can i wait and tolerate this? I can feel that my application was misplaced/lost by the FBI, but noone wants to give me a clear answer. Can lawyer help me to expedite the process?

Re: n-400 naturalization process
Yes, an involvement by an attorney can definitely help. You would need to go to federal court by filing a writ of mandamus, which forces the Government to act within a reasonable time on a pending application.
