Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
Replacement of Green Card
I have recently lost my green card and want to replace it. When i submit my I-90 to get a replacement and my finger prints will they run a background check as well? I have a misdeameanor obstruction of justice from 11/2006. Will this affect my greencard replacement, i have been holding out the process of naturalization because of this but now i am not sure as i recently learned that even when you replacing the green card they will run a background check on you. Do you think i will have any problems getting my greencard replaced? or should i just start the naturalization process? Please advise.

Re: Replacement of Green Card
It is usually recommended to apply for citizenship. However, you might have a problem because of the criminal conviction. You must consult an attorney prior to applying and may be you will need to re-open your criminal case to vacate the conviction. You can contact my firm if you need further assistance.
