Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

there's a section in the citizenship application list your school or employer for the past 5 years: My question is Im a green card holder for 14 years I worked only for 1 year in from 1999 to 2000. and i only did some volunteer work from 2005 to 2009 which i get paid and I file my taxes return. So will the USCIS required someone to have a real job or since you file your taxes based on these volunteer work it wont be problem. Someone told me you required to have 5 years income tax return or USCIS Will denied your citizenship.

Hi,

There is no minimum income requirement to apply for naturalization. Filing of tax returns is expected if you have adequate income to file a tax return. If you do not meet the threshhold requirement to file a tax return, it is acceptable to not have filed a tax return. Failure to file a tax return (if otherwise required to do so per IRS regulations) can constitute lack of good moral character and can result in denial of naturalization application.
