Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Can I start a Company in the US?

I am a lawful resident of the US, currently on a non-immigrant work visa. I want to start a company in the US. Can I start a company even though I do not yet have a green card and while I am still on a non-immigrant work visa?

I have some friends in the US who are either US citizens or lawful permanent residents of the US? Is there any way I can use their legal status, with their co-operation and support, to start my own company?

My green card application is in progress but it may be about a year before I get my green card. I do not want to wait that long to start my own company.

What are the various options I have to start a company immediately?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
