Over stayed visa
My grandmother over stayed her visitors visa to help my mother, a single parent, take care of my autistic brother. My mother has since died, so there is no one who can petition for her. Her only purpose in staying in the US is to take care of my autistic brother and provide financially and physically support him, which I can’t do on my own. My brother is dependent on our grandma. She was granted custody by the courts, although because of his age is unable to adopt him. For his mental well being it is necessary for her to stay. Is there anything she can do to change her status?

There may be an oppportunity for her to apply for humanitarian parole though it is rarely granted, is generally temporary in nature and does not provide a permanent legal status. Contact a qualified immigration attorney to explore this possibility -- it is not a routine matter that can be handled by non-specialists.
