Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Is it possible to sue a lawyer you hired for immigration processing because he neglected to arrange necessary papers that lead to expiration of your VISA stay in the US. He is supposed to remind his client that his stay will expire and things need to be done for renewal but he failed to do so. What are the legal grounds for this? Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to sue a lawyer whom you believe damaged your case or situation with regard to your request for an extension. Before you sue, however, make sure that you have advised the attorney that you are not happy with the outcome of your case and that you believe he or she made certain errors that caused damage to your case. Then give him or her the opportunity to respond. If you are not happy with the response, then you can file a complaint with the Bar Association of that attorney's state in which he is licensed. Then, if you still feel like suing, then go for it. But be prepared for a time-consuming process. Good luck!

However, I would like to know did you take note of the date that your visa would expire and remind the attorney of that date?
