Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

How many years to citizenship?

Three years ago I married a US citizen. At that time I already had a green card for about a year (i.e. GC was not obtained on the basis of the marriage).

Can I now apply for citizenship (after 3 years), or do i need to wait and apply after 5 years based on my permanent residency?

thank you

Re: How many years to citizenship?

You have to wait until you've been a green card holder for 5 years. You can file 90 days before the 5 year anniversary is up, as long as you meet all the other requirements.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
