19 year old driver
If my son who has a car in his name and pays for the insurance in his name, has an accident, can his father or me be liable?

You cannot be liable unless he is using your car. However, your auto insurance and any umbrella policies covering your cars may be available to an injured party should your son's coverage not be enough to cover that party's claim.
