Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York

Claim Dispute

I had a fire at my residents last December. We have submitted our proof of loss and it has been rejected by them. Also we are being told that they are still investigating the loss.

My question is how long do they have until they are obligated to settle this claim? It has been 5 months now and we are no further ahead than we were on day one.

Read your policy. It should spell out the procedures. Generally, they have a reasonable time to pay or disclaim. You may need an attorney.
