Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York
Damage to Neighbor's Car by Son
My son rode his bicycle into the neighbor's car in April 2004. At the time, they told us that the damage was so slight that they were probably not going to get it fixed, but that they would let us know. In January 2005, they told us they had the damage assessed at over $1,000 and that they wanted us to rent them a car for three days while it was fixed. After waiting so long to do the assessment, how can I protect myself, when I'm not sure more damage wasn't done to the car in the 9 months since my son hit their car?

Re: Damage to Neighbor's Car by Son
What is the date on the estimate or repair bill?
Is the damage in the same location? You can tell them no, and see if they sue you in small claims court. They will have to prove the damages were caused by your son.
If they do sue you and you have homeowner's insurance, this might be a covered incident.
Check with your broker or agent.
I would be suspicious of a late damage claim presented after bad snow storms.
