Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York
a family member gets checks sent to them from the insurance company cashes the check and never pays the doctors for their services isnt this illegal?

No. The doctor can sue for it, but it's not a crime. It's slimy and sleazy and the collection firm will not settle for less than the amount of check. It simply doesn't satisfy the technical requirements for theft.
