Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York
Ice Damaged My Car Windshield
I am a teacher in New York. I parked my car in my school's parking lot. During the school day, a large piece of ice fell off of the school roof and broke my windshield. The windshield needs to be replaced, is my school liable for paying for the repairs? Thanks for your help.

Re: Ice Damaged My Car Windshield
Probably not. Unless the school did or omitted something that resulted in the ice becoming extraordinarily hazardous, the school has no duty to abate ice on the roof. If you could show that the school allowed an ice dam to build up to prodigious size, you might have a valid claim, but it's a long shot at best.
