Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York

Insurance/Landlord/fire mess

The building in which I run my business recently caught fire. Fire was caused by an original elec box in the building. My landlord is my Ins. agent. He would not install required (by law)alarm sys but told Ins. Co. there was one. I lost everything I owned. My business is now over. I cannot recoup lost income as I was a new Bus. and Ins Co will cover contents but will only look at past income & not Projected. My credit is now destroyed because I owe everyone. I can't even start over at this point. What recourse do I have?

You may be able to recover from your landlord and or his Insurance Company. If your facts are accurate it would seem that your landlord is liable. Our firm specializes in property damage insurance cases such as this, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. You are welcome to contact us for a free consultation.

Don't take no for an answer.

You might have a lawsuit against the landlord. You might not be able to prove lost income, but we can try to make out a tort case that could support punitive damages. You might have a case for lost income even though yours is a new business.

You need to talk to a law firm that is expert in recovering on behalf of the insured.

Hint. Hint. Wink. Nudge.
