Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York

Medical collections

Two years ago I went to see a doctor. At the time I was carrying two insurance policies my own and my wives. I recently received a bill for $1,000 from a collection agency that is representing the doctors office. I asked how it was possible with two insurances that I owe them money? They stated that the first insurance company didn't respond so now I have to pay the bill. The insurance company says that the bill is too old and they are no longer responsible? what do I do now?

Re: Medical collections

If this is not a co-pay situation then you should not pay this bill. You should be firm with both the collection agency and the insurance company that the insurance company is responsible, and the doctor's office was also responsible for following up. Demand proof that the bills were submitted timely to the insurance company and provide that proof to that company, demanding that they pay. You can also contact the NY Insurance Department in an effort to get the insurance company to pay this bill. I hope this helps.
