Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York
co op fire
The building has been doing work since last month. They have repaired the bathroom and shell of bedroom and windows and doors. They are replacing hardwood floors and electrical and plumbing. They are not responsible for carpet or any other belongings such as mattresses or dressers or other destroyed items, such as golf clubs. Being that my neighbor is a friend, does it have any bearing on if i sue her or the contractor she hired?

Re: co op fire
If you leave the neighbor out of the suit, and it turns out that she had something to do with the fire (failing to inform the contractor that there were disconnected cables or utility lines, for instance) then your recovery will be reduced. If I were put out of my home for four months, I would not be so understanding. The contractor caused the fire and it should be reparing the entire loss, including the carpet. But they will not do that until and unless they are sued.
If you have a share loan, make sure you notify your lender. They are entitled to have their engineer inspect the repairs.
