Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York
I was rear ended by a truck driver. His Insurance company sent a final release letter for me to sign which states "to me paid in hand" . I'm hesitating signing it because I'm uncertain whether that means that I've already been paid because I haven't received any money yet. Please clarify. Even though it's not much, want take sure get what's due to me.

In cases where you have an attorney, you sign the release for your attorney; the attorney tells the insurance company that he has the release and they send the money to the lawyer. Once the check clears, he sends you the money and the release to the insurance company.
You're right to be concerned, since the release is absolute on its face. If you wish to have me act as an intermediary, contact me through the Lawguru system and I'll see what I can do.
