Unoccupied Automobil Damage

What happens when your vehicle is parked and unoccupied, and gets damaged due to a cause of an accident?

You can bring a lawsuit against the persons who caused the accident. If you have "collision" coverage, your insurance Company will pay you and then go after the person who caused the accident. The accident must be reported immediately to the police and to your insurance Company. If you have the identity of the other people involved in the accident, you can attempt to obtain their insurance information directly from them or obtain the police report which will have the insurance code for the insurance on each vehicle involved in the accident. If the amount of damage to your car is less than $5000, you can bring the lawsuit yourself in Small Claims Court
