Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York
Copyright infringement
Hi,
The New York Times quoted a woman, a non-public figure, who spoke to a Times reporter about her doctor acting unethically. Id like to use that quote for an article Im writing for a national magazine. If I attribute the quote to the woman but not to The Times, would I be infringing on The Times copyright?
Thanks.

Re: Copyright infringement
It would seem to be plagiarism as much as copyright infringement. But, two thoughts:
1. Why not contact the woman and interview her yourself?
2. Attribution is your friend.

Mr. Browde is correct. It might be easy to find this source and your reputation is easily lost in your industry.
