Can an author publish the contents of his or her stalker's letters/postcards? Who holds the copyright if the communication was unilateral and unwanted, as confirmed by a police report?

Re: copyright law re: stalker correspondence
Regardless of the content, an author owns the copyright of material written by him.
In your situation I would tend to think that the unwanted/unsolicited materials would be fair game for publishing.
You may wish to identify how and why you would publish such information before moving ahead as the question as posted while it is vague, there are existing legal issues that can be used against you in the event that the writer wishes to pursue them.
