Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

We have some exterior scenes in our movies: outsider scene of the cafes, small shops, the walking people in the street. Will those concern the copyright or the image right? Can some of the public facilities be filmed in the movies?

Whatever is filmed from a public place should not be an issue unless it becomes a focal point of your work. This goes for people as well. So if you are merely capture some business name in a scene, no problem, but if your characters interact with that business in some way it might be crossing the line. These issues are always one of degree.

I suspect that you will have other legal considerations, so I suggest that you consult with a lawyer in private and discuss your objectives in more detail. You can start by calling around to several for a free phone consultation, get some insights then pick the best fit to work with.

If you would like to discuss further over a free phone consult, feel free to contact me anytime that is convenient. Our firm is now referred by the American Bar Association (see under the New York section):
