Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

hello,

i have this idea which i would like to move on with, but im not sure where to start, or how to start. a general perspective; i want to start a TV network.Can a TV network get patented? should i write a proposal? i checked www.uspto.gov to make sure no one else has it patented and they dont. please i appreciate your help.

It would be extremely unusual for a television network to be unique enough in its business operations to obtain a patent. More likely would be protection for trademarks and other intellectual property.

I don't think a TV network was ever patented. Unless you had access to or you have a substantial amount of capital you would be unlikely to prevail. If you took your idea to a company that owned networks (e.g. Time Warner, Comcast, etc.), assuming they'd even read your proposal which they probably would not, you'd run a substantial risk of that company deciding to develop the idea themselves for which you'd have little or no recourse.
