me and another person entered into a verbal 50/50 agreement for a project. One of that person's responsibilities was to fund the project. After the project was complete. that person claimed that i was an employee and that he/she owns the work because it is a work for hire. is this true?

As a Franchise Attorney I can only say it's not possible to answer your question based on the limited information provided. How the project was "funded," the parameters of the verbal agreement, and how you were compensated (as it relates to your verbal agreement) are all factors that need to be considered. You really should consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area to review the above, then be in a position to offer specific advice.
