Right to sell recordings

I was a member of a performing musical group. I recorded many performances with the knowledge and blessing of the leader, although I have nothing in writing. He has since passed away. I would now like to produce CDs from these tapes for profit, or sell them to others to do so. In either case, what are my limitations?

There are several different intellectual property rights at play in your situation - the rights of the other performers, including your band's former leader, and the rights of the composer(s) of the songs you want to use. Though the situation is complicated, it can be most certainly be resolved. But there is a lot more information that's needed before one can give you a complete answer to what needs to be done.
