Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York
I would like to trademark my nickname. Do I need a lawyer present or can I fill out the paperwork alone. I would also like to know how much the fee would be if I were to do that.

Trademark is a complex area of law. That means that you should definitely speak with a trademark attorney about the ramifications of registering your name as a trademark.
Can you fill out the form alone? It's best to use the skills of a trademark attorney.
Each law firm sets its own attorneys' fees, and the attorney's fee depends on the work performed. You can look up the registration fee charged by the US Patent & Trademark Office (for federal registration) at www.uspto.gov; call the Secretary of State to find out what New York's state filing fees are if you choose to do a state-based registration.
