Right to keep beard; Required breaks
I was a manager with Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic) for 20 years. After I was part of a force reduction, I took a job as a manager of a Hess service station.
1. They required that I shave off my beard - even though it was very short and neat. Is this legal?
2. Because it gets very busy - since they have a food service where they make heros and pizza - breaks are frowned upon as is a lunch period. What are the laws regarding this?
3. As a manager, one is required to work long hours (minimum 55 hours) with no extra pay. In addition, if an employee cannot come in, the manager is required to stay for that employees shift (usually 8 hours) - also with no additional compensation. Is this legal?

What do you do as a manager? Do you exercise independent judgement and discretion? You may have an overtime pay claim.
