Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

bereavement

is there a state law showing how many days if any you are entitled to bereavement if a loved one passes away? Would you have to be a direct relation to the deceased or can you be a daughter in-law?

Re: bereavement

There is no such aw. You are entitled to take unpaid leave to take care of a close family member with illness under the Family Medical Leave Act, but there is no similar bereavement law.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
