boss not paying wages

I left my job august 1st, with my boss owing me $540. When i request my money he says he doesnt have it and will get back to me when he does. It has been almost 4 months, and i havent seen a penny. Can i sue him?

Depending on the size of your employer, the way you were paid, and your job duties, you may be covered by both Federal and NY law. In many instances you may be entitled to recover twice what you're owed from your former employer and they may be responsible for paying your attorney's fees and costs of any litigation.
