Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
I was called by a lawyer and told I had to appear in court...do I have to be there if I was not formally summoned or charged with anything?
1 Answer from Attorneys
If you don't appear you may find that a default judgment has been entered against you. In any event, you should go to the court on your own and examine any file in which you are named as a defendant.
In examining this response, please note that we are not entering into an attorney/client relationship, that this is to be taken as informative, and not as legal advice, that it is always best to speak to a lawyer in your area and/or in the area where the transaction and/or events occurred, and that my answer is necessarily limited by the fact that I have not seen the documentation or had an opportunity to go over the matters with you in detail.
