Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Compensation Equality

I am a NYC HHC employee.

Special Officer Title Code 708100

As a new hire compensated at 27,000 per annum, I am required to perform identical tasks as my tenured (three or more years) colleague who earns 37,000 per annum.

Is this discriminatory?

Re: Compensation Equality

Tenure is rewarded in almost every company or government job. There is no discrimination law that protects lesser tenured employees from receiving the same pay or benefits as senior employees.

For example, a teacher with 30 years of service in the NYC public school system can earn more than twice what a new teacher earns, despite having identical job descriptions and duties.

Good luck!
