Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

no compete

i currently work for a company that does retail embroidery and i was originally hired to digitize customers logos, etc. for production at our facility. i also digitize designs for other embroiderers in the area, after hours, with the knowledge of my employer. after almost a year of service, he has informed me that if i continue to digitize for his competition, he will let me go due to a 'conflict-of-interest'. does he have a right to do this even if i am doing designs on my own time and in my own house?

thank you

Re: no compete

Of course he has a right to fire you. You are lucky that he even gave you a warning.
