Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

My daughter applied for a job, the interviewer told her she could have the job if she started that tues. She couldnt give her current employer any notice. we also verified the job through email to make sure. she told her to come in tues and work, which she did. they took all her information made her make out all the forms w4 etc,they then told her the time to come in thursday she did that also. then when she left they told her to come inmonday. but in the meantime that friday my daughter gets a voice message oh her not to come in on monday because that 7 hours was a trial period(which was never specified to her) and that the dr deceided to hire someone else that he knows is this legal?

Unless she had a contract with the employer, she is an employee at will and can be terminated for any legal reason.
