denying employment based on chapter 13 bankruptsy filing

i have applied for a job at a hedge fund working in their operations department. they ran a background check and see that i have a 1.5 year old bankruptsy filing.

in speaking with the employers, it appears that they are concerned because of the nature of the work that i will be performing (analysis+support)...

can i be denied employment because of this filing?
