Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Was I discriminated against or is it my imagination
I had a series of phone interviews for a job. An in person interview was scheduled with a dept. mgr and store recruiter. It changed to one with the HR rep. All seemed to go well but during the interview I opened up my big mouth and mentioned that at a previous job I developed a blood clot from overwork and was out for 4-6 weeks and subsequently had to quit because the hours were too long.(It was actually a heart attack but I didn't want to say that.)All of a sudden I get a letter saying they had no positions for me. I talked to the guy and he said it wasn't anything I did, "there were just no positions for me". I have since developed a couple of other questions and e-mailed him with no response. I believe I didn't get a job because of the health issue. Is there a way to find out? Do I have any options in the matter? It's a little more detailed than this, but I don't have enough space for more detail.

In NY, an employer can't discriminate based on a disability, generally. Your mentioning the previous health problem might qualify as such a disability. This is a pretty specialized area, however, and maybe someone who has more knowledge can assist you.
I can tell you from personal experience, however, discrimination cases are very difficult, since the employer can generally come up with any number of reasons why they didn't hire you.
