Legal Question in Employment Law in New York
Discrimination in the WorkPlace
I feel that I have been discriminated against for over a year at my current place of employment. I have brought several issue to the director in my department and creatively sought to work around these issues to no avail. I made an appointment w/ HR to discuss my situation. The HR rep asked me what kind of intervention I desired. I explained to him that I would like to have a meeting with the HR rep as well as my director to discuss feelings of discrimination. Instead of the HR rep scheduling the meeting as he promised (with me, the director of my department and himself), he meet with my director and another director in my department. I feel that he is giving them a chance to come up with a defense. I believe that he is forewarning them before the meeting. Is this a fair assumption?

Re: Discrimination in the WorkPlace
It's difficult to respond, because your question is framed very generally and vaguely. Your assumption may be correct, but if so, and if your employer is now taking some time to prepare for the meeting or to devise a strategy, this would not be unusual. Anyway, with regard to your larger complaint, from a legal practitioner's point of view, it will be necessary to learn precisely what conduct on the part of your employer or its management has seemed discriminatory to you.
